TAILAM DHARA
Taila Dhara is an Ayurvedic treatment involving pouring a continuous stream of warm, medicated oil over the body or specific areas, like the forehead or joints. This is often combined with gentle massage. The oil is heated to a comfortable temperature and poured from a special vessel, creating a rhythmic flow that aims to soothe and relax the body.
1.Consultation:
An Ayurvedic practitioner assesses the individual’s constitution and specific health concerns to determine the most suitable type of oil and duration of the treatment.
2. Preparation:
The medicated oil is prepared by infusing it with herbs and heating it to the correct temperature.
3. Positioning:
The patient lies on a massage table, typically on their back.
4. Application:
Warm oil is poured from a special vessel in a continuous stream, often over the forehead, spine, or other areas.
The duration of Taila Dhara varies depending on the individual’s needs, but it typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes.
Massage:
Gentle massage is performed simultaneously with the oil application to enhance the therapeutic effect.
The patient is advised to rest for a while to allow the oil to penetrate the tissues.
Types of Dhara:
- Shirodhara: Oil is poured over the forehead, often used for stress relief and mental clarity.
- Sarvangadhara: Oil is poured over the entire body.
- Pizhichil: Oil is applied by squeezing an oil-soaked cloth.
- Janu Dhara: Oil is poured over the knee joint.
