BANDANAM
Bandhanam in Ayurveda is a procedure involving applying a bandage or paste of medicinal substances to the affected area. It's used for pain management and other conditions, especially those caused by Vata imbalances. The procedure involves applying a medicated cloth or paste, which can be tight, moderate, or loose, depending on the condition and location
- Gadha (Tight): Used for areas like the buttocks, abdomen, groins, and thighs.
- Sithila (Loose): Allows air movement and is used on eyes and joints.
- Sama (Moderate): Used on extremities, ears, face, and chest.
- Medicinal Paste/Oil:
Herbal pastes or oils are often used, sometimes mixed with egg white or lemon juice, depending on the condition.
- Kora Cloth:
A cloth is used to bandage the affected area.
- Application:
The paste or oil is applied to the affected area, and then the cloth is tied on.
- Pichu Therapy:
A variation of bandhanam involves using a medicated cloth (Pichu) dipped in oils and placed over the affected area, like the neck, hip, or knee.
- Pain Management: Bandhanam is used for various types of pain, including joint pain, spondylosis, and sciatica.
- Swelling Reduction: It can help reduce swelling in the joints, particularly the knee.
- Local Neuromuscular and Musculoskeletal Pain: Bandhanam is effective for localized pain in these areas.
