TAKRA DHARA
Takradhara is an Ayurvedic therapy involving a continuous stream of medicated buttermilk (Takra) poured onto the forehead or other body parts. It's similar to Shirodhara, but uses buttermilk instead of oil. Takradhara is known for its cooling and rejuvenating properties, particularly beneficial for stress reduction, mental health, and skin conditions like psoriasis.
1. Preparation:
The patient lies down in a supine position on a droni (trough) with the head slightly bent back.
2. Takra Preparation:
Medicated buttermilk (Takra) is prepared with herbs and other ingredients as prescribed by an Ayurvedic physician.
3. Dhara Pot:
A dhara pot is suspended above the patient’s forehead, allowing the Takra to flow in a continuous stream.
4. Application:
The Takra is poured over the forehead in a rhythmic, continuous stream.
5. Head Massage:
The head may be gently massaged during the procedure to enhance the therapeutic effects.
A typical session lasts 30-60 minutes, and a course of treatment may involve 7-14 sessions.
The duration of each session and the overall course of treatment should be determined by the Ayurvedic physician.
- Medicated Takra: The herbs used in Takra preparation are specific to the patient’s condition and are determined by the Ayurvedic physician.
- Stream Control: The stream of Takra should be maintained consistently and rhythmically.
- Head Massage: Gentle head massage can enhance the therapeutic effects of Takradhara.
- Stress Reduction: Takradhara is known to reduce stress, anxiety, and tension.
- Improved Sleep: The calming effects of Takradhara can improve sleep quality.
- Pain Relief: The cooling effect of Takra may help reduce pain associated with migraines and headaches.

- Other Conditions: It may also be helpful for managing hypertension, diabetic neuropathy, and other ailments.
