PRISTAVASTI THERAPY

“Prishta” means whole back region from cervical to Lumbar region and “vasti” means “that which holds”. Prishta Vasti is a procedure in which the specified medicated oil is retained for a stipulated period in the whole back region by creating a wall using black gram flour.
  • The patient lies face down on a treatment table.
  • A reservoir or ring made of dough (prepared from black gram flour) is placed on the targeted area of the spine. This creates a leak-proof boundary to hold the oil.
  • Warm medicated oil is poured into the dough ring and maintained at a specific temperature.
  • The oil is kept on the affected area for a specified period, usually ranging from 30 to 45 minutes.
  • During this time, the oil penetrates deeply into the tissues, providing therapeutic benefits.

After the oil is removed, a gentle massage may be performed on the affected area to enhance the benefits of the treatment.

    • The patient is advised to rest and avoid strenuous activities immediately following the therapy.

Prishta Vasti is recommended for a variety of spinal and neurological conditions, including:

  • Lower Back Pain (Kati Shoola): Effective in managing chronic lower back pain.
  • Sciatica: Helps alleviate the pain radiating along the sciatic nerve.
  • Spondylosis: Provides relief from cervical and lumbar spondylosis.
  • Disc Problems: Beneficial for herniated or slipped discs.
  • Muscle Spasms and Stiffness: Reduces muscle stiffness and spasms along the spine.
  • Spinal Disorders: Supports the treatment of various degenerative spinal conditions.
